Ahead of Coinbase Support, Coinbase Acquires Distributed Systems, South Korea
to Budget Nearly $1 Billion for Blockchain and AI Investment in 2019, Thailand
Approves 7 Crypto Businesses and ZB.com to Open Malta Office
Ethereum Classic (ETC) has seen nearly 16 percent
growth in the past 24 hours, according to data from CoinMarketCap, as it gears up to see support on crypto exchange giant Coinbase later
today. Coinbase announced, via Twitter, that Ethereum Classic, at press time trading at $14.00 USD, will be
available to buy, sell and store as of 5PM PT today.
Coinbase has also recently acquired Distributed
Systems, Inc., a San Francisco-based startup working on “decentralized identity
solutions”, according to a blog post yesterday. The post was written by Coinbase Identity Project Manager B
Byrne, who highlighted the importance of identity and privacy and their
association with blockchain technology.
“We believe
decentralized identity systems represent a transformative shift in our
relationship with technology, and we can’t wait to work on these opportunities
together at Coinbase.”
South Korea’s
Ministry of Economy and Finance published their ‘Growth
Through Innovation’ budget plan on Tuesday, which will see 5 trillion won ($4.4
billion USD) invested in eight sectors in 2019. One of these sectors is
blockchain and AI, which will see an investment of 1040 won ($918 million) in
2019, up from 579.9 billion won ($511 million) in 2018.
In a statement today,
Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced approval of seven
digital asset applicants that can operate legally as crypto businesses. The
statement lists the following exchanges that have been approved: Bitcoin
Company Ltd. (BX), Bitkub, Cash2Coins, TDAX and Coin Asset Co. The statement
also lists two crypto dealers: Coins TH Co, Ltd. and Digital Coin Co, Ltd.
ZB.com, the
fifth largest crypto exchange by trading volume according to CoinMarketCap, has
announced plans to open an office in Malta, according to CCN Joining the
likes of Binance and OKEx, ZB.com’s co-founder Jimmy Zhao explained the appeal
of Malta:
