Data from CoinMarketCap tells us that the total market capitalization is $221 billion USD at press time. This is an improvement over yesterday morning's $217 billion USD, but not quite as high as last night's peak of $226 billion USD. Bitcoin (BTC) is trading at $6669 USD, Ethereum (ETH) at $225 USD and XRP at $0.53 USD, each showing modest growth in the past day. Bitcoin Cash (BCH) is down about 3 percent and trading at $545 USD.
Indian crypto exchange Zebpay has halted all trading until further notice, according to an announcement on Medium. The blog post explains that despite Zebpay's determination to continue offering their services, difficulties such as the restriction of bank accounts have made further business unfeasible.
"Despite regulatory and banking problems along our journey, we continued to look for solutions as we did not want India to miss the bus of digital assets that power the public blockchain. However, the recent past has been extremely difficult. The curb on bank accounts has crippled our, and our customer's, ability to transact business meaningfully. At this point, we are unable to find a reasonable way to conduct the cryptocurrency exchange business."
Japanese messaging giant LINE has announced five new decentralized apps (dApps), as well as a new digital coin. CoinDesk reports that the dApps will include: a question-and-answer app called Wizball Overview, a product review app called Pasha Overview, an app that creates a prediction market called 4CAST Overview, a food review app called TAPAS Overview and finally STEP Overview for location reviews. LINE's existing digital coin, LINK, is only available outside of Japan and the U.S., whereas their newly announced LINK Point will only be available in Japan.
At the 73rd Session of the U.N. General Assembly (UNGA), Sierra Leone's president, Julia Maada Bio, announced a partnership with leading technology nonprofit Kiva, the U.N. Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) and the U.N. Development Programme (UNDP) to launch a blockchain-based system that will give citizens of his country access to financial services. Called the Kiva Protocol, it will establish a national identification system using the blockchain. Kiva CEO Neville Crawley said:
"With this partnership in Sierra Leone, we hope to carve a path to a system of global identity and federated credit history. This can unlock capital for the populations who need it most, allowing lenders to massively increase services and the flow of funds to the world's unbanked."
Mongolia has launched its first official digital currency, according to a report from state-owned media outlet Montsame. The first company to acquire a license for digital currency is Mobifinance, a financial branch of Mobicom Corporation. The company has already begun circulation of its digital currency called ‘Candy'. Mobicom Corporation CEO Tatsuya Hamada said:
"As digital currencies have begun to circulate, ATMs and cards will become a thing of the past as well."
