Crypto exchange
Bitfinex, along with its subsidiary Ethfinex, has announced in a Medium blog post the
launch of its Initial Exchange Offering (IEO) platform, Tokinex. The platform
will allow users to access pre-vetted projects in the crypto space as well as
secondary market trading of the users’ own assets. The press release describes
how Tokinex is a benefit to token projects:
Unlike on other exchanges, qualifying projects are only
charged a fee if their sale is successful, and projects that successfully raise
capital on the platform are subsequently provided with a dual exchange listing,
exposing the token to one of the largest pools of liquidity in crypto.
The first token
sale will take place on June 13th and details will be revealed May 23rd.
The U.S. Internal
Revenue Service (IRS) is working on tax guidance for cryptocurrencies according
to a recently published letter. The letter was a
response by IRS Commissioner Charles P. Rettig to Rep. Tom Emmer. The latter
had requested “further guidance” on crypto taxation, and Rettig wrote that:
“We have been considering these issues and intend to
publish guidance addressing these and other issues soon.”
CoinDesk reports that
Emmer, who is a member of the Congressional Blockchain Caucus, replied with the
following:
“I am glad to hear of the IRS’ plans to issue guidance
on this important issue. Taxpayers deserve clarity on several basic questions
regarding federal taxation of these emerging exchanges of value. I look forward
to seeing their forthcoming proposal, and working together to serve the
American taxpayers.”

Asian Review
reports that Chinese blockchain-based
livestreaming platform DLive has seen its user numbers swell by 67
percent after signing YouTube’s biggest star PewDiePie. Since then, DLive has
more than five million monthly active users and over 70,000 streamers on the
platform. PewDiePie, whose real name if Felix Kjellberg, is most well known for
his content on gaming and currently has some 95 million subscribers on YouTube.
Kat Peterson, co-founder of ReelSix and one of PewDiePie's business managers,
said:
"I'm certainly not an expert in blockchain
technology, but I do think DLive has the opportunity through the transparency
they provide to change the system. It made perfect sense to put the DLive
opportunity in front of Felix because of DLive's mission of empowering creators
and rewarding their communities, which directly aligns with Felix's
goals."
