The bull run in the crypto
market is persisting strongly with a massive spike in prices seen in the last
24 hours. At press time, total market capitalization is clocking in at about
$371 billion USD, according to data from CoinMarketCap.
This is the highest we’ve seen since May 2018, over a year ago. Currently,
Bitcoin (BTC) holds about 62 percent market dominance
after a staggering 24-hour growth of nearly 14 percent. The flagship
cryptocurrency is currently trading for about $12,900 with a market cap of $230
billion. Ether (ETH), which decidedly ranks as the top
altcoin, boasts growth of 11.5 percent in the last day, resulting in a market
cap of $37 billion and a trading price of $346.
According to a blog post today, Opera has launched its web
browser Opera Touch for iOS which features a built-in crypto wallet previously
only available to Android and PC users. The browser also enables users to
“seamlessly interact with the next generation of Web 3 applications on the
Ethereum blockchain”. An excerpt from the blog post explains Web 3 and the
significance of the browser’s crypto wallet:
Web
3 is an umbrella term for a set of emerging technologies intersecting
cryptocurrencies, blockchains and distributed systems that, together, extend
the capabilities of the Web we all use today in meaningful ways, allowing for
example direct peer-to-peer payments between users and websites.
We
believe that the Web of today will be the interface to the decentralized web of
tomorrow (Web 3). With built-in Crypto Wallet, the browser has the potential to
renew and extend its important role as a tool to access information, make
transactions online and manage users’ online identities in a way that gives
them more control.
Payments firm Square (NYSE:SQ)
is supporting bitcoin deposits for its Cash App, according to a report from CoinDesk. Previously, users were just able to
buy, sell or transfer the cryptocurrency using the app, but according to sources
cited by CoinDesk, deposits are now functional.
Crypto exchange giant
Binance successfully facilitated a transfer of about $1.2 billion worth of
Binance Coin (BNB) for a fee of only $0.015 in just 1.1
seconds. This prompted Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) to tweet:
This
transaction: cost $0.015 USD in fees, took 1.1 seconds, and $1.2 BILLION in
value transferred.
