According to a blog post yesterday, crypto exchange giant Coinbase will now allow users to backup encrypted private keys using Google Drive or iCloud. This safeguards against users who lose their device or get signed out of the Coinbase app, allowing them to choose a password for keychain access. The post explains that a user's password is secure from both Coinbase and the cloud provider.
Coinbase will not have access to your password or funds at any time, preserving your privacy and control. Your cloud backup provider will also not have access to your funds, as only you know the password that decrypts your encrypted recovery phrase.
A recent website announcement indicates that Nasdaq (NasdaqGS:NDAQ), through a partnership with New Zealand-based crypto market data firm Brave New Coin, will add Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) indices. Known as the Bitcoin Liquid Index (BLX) and Ethereum Liquid Index (ELX), the two listings will update price data every 30 seconds.
Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Inc. (NYSE:MUFG), the fifth largest bank in the world and the biggest in Japan, and fintech company Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NasdaqGS:AKAM), will launch a blockchain-based payments network in 2020. The new venture will be called Global Open Network , Inc. and will be capable of "processing over a million transactions per second". An excerpt from the announcement reads:
The new company will utilize MUFG's presence in the payment business and Akamai's intelligent edge platform*1, which offers world-class speed and security, with the aim of providing an open payment network in Japan based on new blockchain technology*2 by the first half of 2020.
South Korean foreign exchange bank, KEB Hana Bank, has filed 46 patents for blockchain-related businesses, according to a report from ZDNet. The businesses range from overseas purchasing, electronic contracts, digital asset services and disaster management. Han Jun-Seong, vice president of KEB Hana Bank, said:
"It is true that the blockchain business that has been introduced so far has had some bubbles. This patent application is not just about applying blockchain technology to banking, it is meaningful to connect the new business model and the bank's internal system through a blockchain."
CCN reports that crypto asset broker Voyager has launched its Bitcoin trading app in nine U.S. states this morning. According to the report, the "app enables users to leverage the power of algorithmic trading to find the best deal on Bitcoin, Ethereum, and a variety of other cryptocurrencies. Users enter their trade conditions, and Voyager does the rest, accessing a growing list of exchanges to find the best liquidity and price." Once approved, California, Illinois, Massachusetts, Missouri, Montana, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Wisconsin, and Arizona will have access to the app and the 18 cryptocurrencies featured with the launch.
