As we open a new
week the crypto market is challenging speculation of an impending bull run with
a tumble in trading prices over Sunday night. According to CoinMarketCap, market
capitalization slipped from its relatively stable $130 billion mark to about
$126 billion at press time. Consequently the majority of the top coins listed
by market cap are in the red, with Bitcoin (BTC) trading for
$3760, Ether (ETH) for $127 and XRP for $0.31 at press
time.
U.S. grocery giant
Kroger Co. (NYSE:KR) announced that Smith's Food
& Drug Stores will no longer be accepting Visa (NYSE:V) payments citing
fees as “excessive”. Following this news, Morgan Creek Digital co-founder and
partner Anthony Pompliano said in a series of tweets that:
“The Morgan Creek Digital team will fly to
meet them and get them hooked up with the Lightning Network nationwide.”

Lightning Network
is a second layer payment protocol that operates on top of a cryptocurrency.
According to a
story from Bloomberg yesterday,
companies in the crypto and blockchain space are still having trouble being
approved for “basic banking services”. The piece quotes Robby Houben, a lawyer
and professor at the University of Antwerp:
“No
bank is willing to help them out. I have met some really stand-up people in
crypto that don’t deserve such a bad reputation and want the sector to be
regulated, yet for every one of those, there are plenty of others trying to
scam the public, launder money or evade taxes.”
In an official press
release,
the Central Bank of the Bahamas has announced its preferred technology
solutions provider for “Project Sand Dollar” – the archipelago’s digital
fiat currency system. The company chosen by the central bank is NZIA Limited,
which boasts “expertise in resilient Internet of Things networks solutions”.
