Today
reports that the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is considering
blockchain implementation to improve digital transactions. The NPCI is
described as “an umbrella organisation for all retail payments in India” and
was “set up with the guidance and support of the Reserve Bank of India and the
Indian Banks Association (IBA)”. Quoted in the article is Innefu Labs Co-Founder Tarun Wig, who commented
on the usefulness of distributed ledger technology:
"Blockchain
stores information about transactions between users in a way that can be
tracked by any user for forever for maximum transparency. This gives visibility
which can lead to greater efficiency by automating or confirming transactions
and increasing liquidity in the supply chain.”
A newly-passed law
in France known as the Pacte Law allows life insurance providers to invest in
cryptocurrencies, according to a report from FXStreet. A duel provision
of the law allows insurers to invest in cryptoassets through specialized professional funds. Notably, the
Pacte Law places no limitation on the amount of investment.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank
have launched Learning Coin, an educational cryptocurrency that helps users
understand blockchain technology, according to CoinDesk. The coin, which will have no monetary value, is launched
in tandem with a Learning Coin app that allows the sharing of multimedia
content between users. First reported in the Financial Times, the IMF said:
“The development of crypto-assets and distributed
ledger technology is evolving rapidly, as is the amount of information (both
neutral and vested) surrounding it. This is forcing central banks, regulators
and financial institutions to recognize a growing knowledge gap between the
legislators, policymakers, economists and the technology.”
Cointelegraph reports that
Japanese fintech firm Money Forward Inc. has suspended plans to launch a
cryptocurrency exchange in response to bear market conditions. Money Forward
Inc.’s board said:
“The virtual currency market has cooled rapidly and the
downside risk of profitability has been increased by continuing the business.”
