In a blog post published today, Coinbase (NasdaqGS:COIN) announced that its Visa debit card (Coinbase Card) will now work with Apple Pay and Google Pay. Like many such cards, Coinbase Card works by converting a user’s cryptocurrency into a fiat currency like USD at the point of purchase.

Marathon Digital Holdings, Inc. (NasdaqGS:MARA) announced that its Bitcoin (BTC) mining pool, MaraPool has adopted and implemented Bitcoin Core version 0.21.1, which is the latest update to the Bitcoin client software. According to the press release, this new version includes the Taproot soft fork, which is “designed to improve privacy.” Marathon’s CEO, Fred Thiel, said:

 

“By adopting the full standard Bitcoin core node, we will be validating transactions on the blockchain in the exact same way as all other miners who use the standard node. We look forward to continue being a collaborative and supportive member of the Bitcoin community and to realizing the vision of Bitcoin as the first decentralized, peer-to-peer payment network that is powered by its users rather than a central authority or middlemen.”

 

Canaan Inc. (NasdaqGS:CAN) has reported its unaudited financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2021. Highlights include total net revenues of $61.5 million USD, and a total of 2.0 million Thash/s in computing power sold. The company’s Chairman and CEO, Nangeng Zhang, said:

 

"Our financial performance improved significantly in the quarter, driven by the Bitcoin price rally, higher customer demand for quality mining machines, and our ability to ramp up mining machine production and deliveries. During the period, we improved our mining machine production yields and secured sufficient capacity for future production by forging tighter partnerships with key foundry partners and other suppliers. We also maintained our strategic focus on enhancing our R&D capabilities to augment the quality and performance of our mining machines.”
