Microsoft (NasdaqGS:MSFT) has been granted a patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a “Ledger-independent token service,” allowing users to create tokens and blockchain applications. The patent’s abstract reads:

 

Techniques for implementing a ledger-independent token service are provided. According to one set of embodiments, a computer system executing the service can receive, from a user, a request to create a token on a distributed ledger network. The computer system can further provide to the user one or more token templates, where each token template corresponds to a type of physical or digital asset and defines a set of one or more attributes and one or more control functions associated with the type. The computer system can then receive, from the user, a selection of a token template in the one or more token templates and create the token on the distributed ledger network, where the created token includes the set of one or more attributes and one or more control functions defined in the selected token template.

 

Neptune Digital Assets Corp. (TSXV:NDA) has announced that its recent purchase of two hundred new Antminer S19 Pro next-generation bitcoin ASIC mining machines “have arrived in the United States and are securely warehoused awaiting distribution to the Company's Bitcoin mining facility.” Cale Moodie, Neptune CEO, commented:

 

"We are quite pleased with our timing on this most recent purchase as rig prices have moved up a significant amount since we placed this order. This will add another 22,000 TH/s of capacity to our existing 12,000 TH/s and we look forward to working with Luxor and our US partners to get these new bitcoin mining machines ‎ operational as soon as possible. We continue to source the best machines at competitive pricing as we scale our bitcoin mining operations cautiously and strategically with market forces in mind. As we have mentioned before, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact logistics and the supply of miners and we are working closely with our partners to maximize speed and decrease cost."

 

Link Global Technologies Inc. (CSE:LNK) has provided an update on its business operations and recent developments in the Canadian province of Alberta. The company’s 10MW site at Westlock is still in operation, but both its 3.75MW site at Kirkwall, and its 5MW site at Campbell are to be shut down today, awaiting review from the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC). Link Global CEO, Stephen Jenkins, explained:

 

"The high level of scrutiny on all of Link Global's operations by the Alberta Utilities Commission that resulted from this process has given us confidence that we can achieve compliance on our existing sites, but also new sites moving forward. In consideration of the neighbour's concerns, at the Sturgeon County site we are moving forward with plans to move this plant to a new location even though we currently meet all noise compliance standards for the Campbell site. We do recognize it is important to listen to the local community and in particular one neighbour's concerns with respect to the facility. The agility of our units allows us to be flexible and respond when the need for mobility becomes obvious."
